In 2001, my wife Jayne and I made one of the biggest decisions of our lives.
We moved to Spain to start a new life.
We arrived with our two little rascals in tow — Harry, just three months old, and Billie, aged two.
We had a young family, a lot of hopes and dreams, and the excitement that comes with starting something completely new.
Our first home was in the Benidorm area, where we bought a newly built property.
It was supposed to be our new beginning.
Our dream home in Spain.
But it didn't take long for us to discover something that many people who buy new-build properties in Spain experience for themselves...
“New” doesn't always mean “finished.”
Our own property came with its fair share of problems.
At the time, we were simply homeowners. We had bought a new property and trusted that everything would be right.
It wasn't.
And although those problems were frustrating at the time, they gave us something that would stay with us for years to come — first-hand experience of what it feels like when your new home isn't quite what you expected.
Four years later, we moved to Fortuna and took on a large renovation project of our own.
We thought we'd eventually finish it.
More than 20 years later...
We're still working on it!
But during those years, our lives became increasingly involved in construction.
We've managed projects.
We've renovated properties.
We've built several properties from the ground up.
We've worked alongside tradesmen and contractors and watched properties develop from the first foundations to the final finishing touches.
And we've seen both sides of the construction process.
We've seen work carried out to an exceptionally high standard, by people who genuinely care about what they do.
But we've also seen properties handed over where the workmanship and finishing simply weren't good enough.
We've seen things that look fine from across the room but tell a very different story when you know where — and how — to look.
That's given us a unique perspective.
We've been the buyer.
We've been the homeowner.
We've been the people taking on the renovation.
We've managed construction projects.
We've built properties.
And we've experienced what happens when a new home isn't finished to the standard it should be.
After more than 30+ years of construction experience, we created SnagRight.net to help property buyers identify problems before they become bigger headaches.
Because buying a property abroad should be exciting.
It should be about imagining your life there.
The morning coffee on the terrace.
The first family Christmas.
The holidays with friends.
The investment you've worked hard to build.
It shouldn't be about worrying whether the doors close properly, whether the shower leaks, whether the tiles have been fitted correctly or whether something that should have been finished has simply been overlooked.
Your new home is a major investment.
And when you've invested your money, your time and your dreams into it, you shouldn't have to accept poor workmanship as part of the package.
That's why we look beyond the obvious.
Our detailed snagging inspections identify defects, poor workmanship and incomplete finishes that can easily be missed during a normal viewing.
Every inspection is carried out independently, with meticulous attention to detail, and supported by a clear, comprehensive report that gives you the information you need to raise issues with the developer or contractor.
Because the small things matter.
And sometimes, the things that seem small today can become very expensive problems tomorrow.
Our job is to find them, document them clearly and help you address them at the right stage of the process.
And to make sure that the little things — and the big things — don't simply get forgotten.
By identifying defects early and producing clear, detailed reports, we help protect your investment, minimise potential future repair costs and give you confidence about the condition and finish of your property.
We don't work for developers — we work exclusively for you.
Whether you're approaching completion on a new-build property or are within a developer's warranty/defects period, we identify defects and document them clearly, helping you raise the issues with the appropriate party while they can still be addressed.
Because we've been there ourselves.
We know what it's like to stand in the doorway of a new home and believe that everything should be perfect.
And we know that sometimes...
you need someone who knows where to look.
